Founded in 2005, by Dr. Art Langer, with headquarters in New York, Workforce Opportunity Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization “committed to developing the skills of untapped talent from underserved and veteran communities through partnerships with organizations dedicated to diversifying their workforce.”

The company’s overall goal is to solve diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) problems in today’s workforce.  With a proven model derived from research conducted at Columbia University, the company recruits, educates, trains, and places Veterans with leading organizations worldwide.

WOS partners include companies like Prudential, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, General Electric, the Department of Transportation, United Rentals, and a host of others.

The company has served over 5,500 people through its training and job placement programs.  More than half of them are post-9/11 veterans.

What can Veterans Expect from WOS?

WOS works with post 9/11 veterans and military spouses to develop their skills so they can fill job openings in several industries including IT, healthcare, claims, cybersecurity, mechanics, and more.

A Veteran can expect to receive:

How Much Money Can a Veteran Earn After Going through a WOS Program?

WOS prides itself on helping Veterans earn good-paying jobs. 

According to the Forbes article noted above, Dr. Langer stated that nearly 80% of program participants earn more than $45,000 a year.

Job Openings at Workforce Opportunity Services

WOS has several job openings.  A quick review of the Job Opening page reveals the following full-time positions in several states such as New Jersey, Michigan, Texas, Arizona, and Georgia:

  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Energy Specialist
  • Payroll Specialist
  • Project Coordinator

Some jobs are remote, and some are specifically for Veterans.  Veterans should be post 9/11 with an honorable discharge or be a current National Guard or reservist. 

Some programs can last 14 weeks, others may be shorter.  For example, the project coordinator position program overview is broken down into 2 phases:

Phase 1 – Training (Up to 4 weeks): 

  • Monday – Friday classes and certification test prep
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Technical training and certification


Phase 2 – Full-Time Employment:

  • Full-Time work (38 hours/week) with training (2 hours/week)
  • Continued support and individual mentorship
  • Compensation of $22.50/hour plus benefits after 90 days


WOS Application Process

The online WOS application process is simple.  It requires:

  • Contact information, including U.S. military affiliation
  • Resume
  • Questionnaire to determine Veteran status

After submitting an application, WOS will reach out for a follow-up phone call. If they believe this could be a good fit, they will begin the selection process which can include phone interviews, in-person interviews and/or pre-certifications.

Candidates can reapply if they do not get accepted the first time.
